We do our best to return all emails, but we get many and sometimes fall behind. Please read through all the web sites guides and info pages before submitting a question. You may find the answer. If you do not get a response, you are welcome to politely re-send your question.
Here are some common questions:
Where do I log in to Buoyweather
There is no need to specifically "login" anymore. You'll be ask
to log in when you click on a subscriber page. For instance you
can go strait to your Virtual Buoy. Then when you click "7 Day Graph",
you'll be asked to log in. The best thing to do is bookmark this
page as your entry to Buoyweather. Then you are logged in first
thing and your Buoyweather favorites list is loaded.
How do I renew my subscription?
Go to the "My
Account" page on the main menu. First make sure the credit card
details are correct and then click the renew account link.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to the "My
Account" page on the main menu. Turning the auto billing feature
to "off" will cancel your subscription. If you are within
the 30 days trial, you will not be charged. You will have access
for the full 30 days though.
Can you change the location of a Virtual Buoy?
Yes and no. The points are fixed by the weather model's grid. The
points you see on the maps are typically the closest grid point
to the nearby land, but you can change the lat/long further out
out to sea.
Do you have historical data?
Yes. Over 8 years of past WAVEWATCHIII wave, wind, and period data.
This data is updated every few months so data from last week will
not show up for up to 2 months. Click
here for more info.
How do I subscribe?
The subscription is $69.95 per year to use the web site. This includes
enough message credits to recieve two email forecasts per day for
a year (730). You can pay by Visa or MasterCard by clicking
here.
What is a message credit?
This is the number of forecast emails Buoyweather will send you
during your subscription term. The basic account includes two emails
per day for a year. If you set up four emails per day, your emails
will stop in six months when the credits are used up. You do not
have to use any credits if you do not need the email service.
My username and password no longer work.
Either your account is expired or you are using the incorrect username
or password. If it has been a year since you subscribe or you have
average more than 1 email per day, your account is expired. Click
here to renew.
If your account stops working after your free 30 days, your credit card was likely declined. You can update this from the
renewal page.
Most problems with this have to do with not entering the correct
user/pass. The username is the FULL email address used to register.
If you changed email addresses, you'll need to log in with the old
one and change it. Sometimes the web browsers password memory gets
confused. If it is not working, don't accept what the browser memory
puts in the password box for you. Re-type it in very carefully with
your full email address and password. Note that passwords are case
sensitive. It needs to be entered exactly as you set it up. Click
here if you forgot it.
Can I change my email address or password?
Yes. The My Account page has the tools to do this. Go to My account
Your forecast says the wind would only be 30 knots and we see gusts to 40. These aren't our forecasts. They are automatically created from the weather models data. We display what the model says. Forecasting weather is not an exact science and the forecast will never be exactly what happens. There is some skill and experience required for interpreting the models outlook. For instance, next time the model says 30 knots, you should be thinking that gusts may be up to 40.
Your forecast hasn't updated in two days. When is it going to be fixed?
Buoyweather retrieves weather model data from many different sources.
There are times when our sources have problems producing data and
we cannot get updates. We monitor data updates closely. Sometimes
we receive corrupt data and our weather displays will not look right.
These problems are usually fixed within a few hours. Check back
later and it is probably fixed.
I like the old site better. Can you change it back?
We get emails like this every time the site updates which has occurred
many times. If we took that advice, the old site wouldn't exist
because it would be the one before that! Ideas for improvement are
welcome though.
